What is a Daum vase?

Vasa Daum is a glass vase, most often made of Crystal Glass, handmade in the Daum studio in France Nancy. The Daum studio has been in operation since 1878 and its decorative vases and sculptures, which are often produced in the style of Art Nouveau or Art Deco, became famous in the early part of the 20th century. Glass vases from this study commonly have designs and motifs inspired by nature, including animals, birds, leaves and flowers. On the weight of Daum, a wide range of decorative glass production techniques can be used, including acid etching, enamel, wood carving, engraving and using elements such as handles and other ornaments. The Daum studio is the most famous use of Pâte de Verre or glass paste, a technique that is rarely used and working form of glass production that allows you to create glass objects that are very finely detailed. Depending on the forest of the vase, the details of its design, and how well it retains, it can sell from less than $ 100 (USD) to several thousand USD. Each DAUM vase is designed by an artist and made a rugthem, so every vase is unique. The famous artists who were known for their work in Daum are Pierre d'Esn and Jacques Gruber. Some vases are signed by a design artist and the presence of such a signature can significantly increase the value of the DAUM vase.

6 The authentic Daum vase is always stamped by the Daum Studio signature, which contains the words of Daum Nancy and the so -called Lorraine cross, a cross with two horizontal lines. In some cases, the DAUM vase may also contain the edition number and when Purchadsed from an authorized seller, the Daum vase is supplied with an authenticity certificate.

The glass paste technique used to produce a vase in the DAUM studio includes several steps. First, a wax statue of a vase is made. Then the gypsum mold is cast around the wax and the wax melts. It is then inserted into the mold of the powder crystal glass in the desired colors and the mold is heated in the furnace to make a glass. The finished vase is then removed fromforms and polished.
