What are Dutch doors?
Dutch doors are doors that consist of two panels divided in half horizontally, allowing the upper and bottom of the door to be closed independently. Classically, the lower panel is left closed, while the upper part is left open to allow the circulation of light and air. This door design is also sometimes referred to as a stable, barn or half doors, depending on the area of the world, and is very common in rural design and houses to have a rustic look and feeling.
This design probably appeared in the Netherlands in the 16th century. People wanted to be able to leave their door open to get to the fresh air and see who was around, but the animals entered the house when the door was open, made a mess and spoiled food. The Dutch door created a barrier in the form of the lower half of the door that the animals could not exceed, while allowing the upper part of the door to remain open and satisfy the needs of the household. It is used in kitchens and extensions likeare stables and workshops. They can also be used inside to create barriers without blocking the rooms apart. For example, parents can use the Dutch door in the home office to keep toddlers outside while watching the household, or pet owners can use Dutch doors to prevent animals from the kitchen without cutting off from the guests.
Most of the Dutch doors include a latch known as a quadrant that allows you to lock the door to move as a single unit. The design can include different styles along with functions such as windows at the top or bottom of the door, and the door can be carried out in solid wood, hollow core and materials such as metal or plastic to suit different needs and personal tastes.
suspension of the Dutch door must be done with special care because there are two units that may fall out of plumb and create a sideEligible appearance or make the fully closed door closed. Extra hinges are usually required to keep both halves safe, and security measures such as locks can be somewhat more complicated due to separate halves with the Dutch doors. Most prefabricated doors include careful hinges and the supplier can provide additional advice or hang the door for a small fee.
