What is Fabaceae?

Fabaceae family consists mainly of flowering pulses and peas. Fabaceae is considered the third largest flowering plant family after Asteraceae, the family aster and orchidaceae, the family of orchids. Flowering plant family Fabaceae includes about 18,000 species and 400 flowers of flowering, legume plants. Among the members of this plant family are several commonly cultivated plants. Trees, herbs, vines and shrubs belonging to this plant family come from all areas of the world. The species from this family of plants can be found around the world. Types of wood, shrub or tree similar to a tree are generally indigenous warmer, more tropical areas, while herbal species usually grow in a cooler slight climate. Some members of the Fabaceae family are commonly grown and considered great economic imports. Soybean, or glycin max ; peanuts or arachis hypogaea ; garden peas, or pisum sativum ; and Alfalfa or Medicago sativa is one of these economicImportant species.

Some members of the Fabaceae family produce mostly pea-like flowers to members of the sub-family papillionideae. Members of sub-family caesalpinioideae usually produce bilateral flowers with five separate petals. Members of this sub -family include Tamarind, Jerusalem thorn and Carob. Members of sub-family Mimosideae generally produce large flowers that grow in the spikes or produce heads of more flowers such as powder or mesquite.

Many plants in the Fabaceae family can be known as lawn weeds. trifolium repeated , commonly known as White Clover, is one of them. desmodium trifolium or clover tick is another. Many family members are sometimes used as feed for livestock in their countries of origin, such as butterfly peas or clitoria ternatea .
