What is a decorative party?

You were invited to a decorative party, but you're not sure what to wear. What are you doing? Dust from your tuxedo? Take a cocktail dress in the cleaner? Unlock the safe and pull out the diamonds? None of the above. When someone is invited to a decorative party, one is simply asked to come to the costume.

"Fancy dress" is mainly a British term, although those in the high society tend to use it also. It dates back to the Victorian era. Previously, the masquerade parties were rage. Because visitors to the parties were masked and costumed, and therefore anonymous tend to act in an inappropriate way. People were much bolder than when they were dressed in everyday clothes. To discourage this behavior, masquerade parties fell out of fashion with a social elite. Instead, the parties where costumes were required, but the masks did not become en vogue. To distinguish them from scandalous masquerade parties, they became known as "decorative dresses".

If there was anything to celebrate, there was a great chance that it would be celebrated in the costume.

Shakespeare proved to be a popular topic, such as native costumes from other countries, although on this day and age some of them would be considered politically incorrect. Other popular costumes depicted seasons, such as the popular "winter", which meant dressing in fashionable white dresses decorated with an elegant accessory, such as sparkling "ramps". The peasant dresses were also quite fashionable because they were considered "romantic" and possible more seductive than costumes that covered fission, arms and legs.

Fancy dress parties indicated a certain moral standard. Men did not dress like women; Women did not dress because men and parts of the body were not exposed. That was eventually a polite society and such behavior was under them.

These days, "Fancy dress" is just a celebrated term for a costume party and almost everything goes. Most decorative parties are held around Halloween, although it is not heard to host one of these sides at other times during the year.
