What is a fire escape?

One common view in many metropolitan neighborhoods has been found in many housing and office buildings. The purpose of the fire escape was to provide an emergency departure from the building in the event of a fire or other type of problem with the usual means of performance. Landing of leakage from fire escape often designed with robust metal served as a large extension of the interior.

Configuration for fire leakage is very simple. Metal landing or platforms are connected to the side of the building, close to the windows for each apartment or office on the floor. Each landing can be achieved from the upper and lower floors using steel ladders that can be increased or decreased as needed.

In some versions of fire escape, ladders are permanently determined on the spot. This configuration was often used with office buildings because it eliminated the need to place ladders in the case of Emergency. On the other hand, residential buildings usually represented retractable ladders, which gave the residents an increased sense of privacy.

Before the air conditioner became common, many urban residents took advantage of the fire as a place to leak the heat of the apartment during the summer months. In some neighborhoods, it would not be unusual to see how the inhabitants attracted the mattress to the fire escape of landing and sleeping outside for a clear night. Other times, the fire escape offered an ideal place to set small coal and prepare food outdoors.

Much more than a simple fire output provided a fire leak welcome to the extension of the living space for cramped apartments. Along with the use as an emergency departure, the fire escape often worked in a similar way to porch and terraces in suburban houses. While it is no longer installed with a new construction, older neighbors often still have buildings with old -fashioned fire leaks.
