American guitar orchestra is usually a larger set of at least twenty players. In this type of file it can be anywhere from four to eight sections. Players tend to be arranged in a similar way to the traditional string orchestra, and these types of groups often use other tools in addition to guitars.

There are also orchestras that consist mainly of electric guitars. These groups tend to focus on avant guardic music, although some sets play different styles. There are also groups that combine electrical and acoustic tools.
