What is Hermann's turtle?
Hermann's turtle is a type of small tortoise very popular in a shop with pets. Hermann's turtle, which comes from Europe, is still found in the wilderness around the original range, but the turtles captured were balanced as domestic animals throughout Europe and overseas. These turtles are active, easy to behave and durable. The scientific name for Hermann's turtle is Testudo Hermanni .
When a young, Hermann turtle has a brightly colored shell called a carapace, yellow and black that disappears how the turtle ages. Small reptiles, adult turtles are only 5-10 inches long (12.7–25.4 cm). Females are usually larger than men, but have shorter tails.
There are two subspecies of Hermann's turtle: The Western, Testudo Hermanni Hermanni and Eastern, Testudo Hermanni Boetgeri . Western ranges from northern Spain and Italy to southern France, while the eastern lives in Greece, Yugoslavia and Albania, as well as Jacobalkan and southern Italy. Both subspecies can be differentiated by yellow spots onThe western head and a more distracted pattern on the eastern shell.
In the wild, Hermann's turtles live in oak forests or rocky hills in arid climate. They are mostly vegetarian, they eat flowers, leaves, grass and stems of plants. They can also complement their diet invertebrates such as slugs and snails. In captivity, traditional vegetables can be fed to these reptiles with success.
Hermann's turtles are very active and spend a lot of time to explore. Men often fight each other, especially during reproduction periods, and can be aggressive to women. Although this is not always necessary, it is sometimes safer for owners to accommodate men and female turtles separately, if they are not actively breeding.
breeding occurs in the spring until the summer. Women dig 3-4 inch (7.6–10 cm) deep nests in dirt, in which they lie between two and 12 eggs. Eggs can be incubated for 90-120 days before hatching.
Although these turtles are small, they require large closures and do best outside. Inserts should have a lot of naturally growing food, as well as rocks and shrubs. It is also necessary to southern exhibition for heating.
As durable, reptiles are easy to behave, Hermann's turtles are very desirable in a pet store and once gathering from nature thousands. This excessive collection threatened their wild existence. Fortunately, the wild population was reflected and most of the turtles sold as pets are now kept in captivity. However, wild populations are still not safe. Although their populations are relatively stable at the beginning of the 21st century, the destruction of habitats threatens their survival.
