What is dog hepatitis?

dog hepatitis is a viral disease of the liver dogs. Normally, the type of 1 dog adenovirus (CAV-1) is caused. It is usually spread by direct contact with body fluids infected with a dog or contact with contaminated surfaces in the patient of the dog. Dog hepatitis can be fatal for dogs and can cause death very quickly. While the treatment of this disease is difficult, there is a vaccine to protect dogs from dog hepatitis. Initial symptoms of infection may include cough, sore throat and severe cases of pneumonia. Later in the disease process, CAV-1 can affect kidneys, eyes and liver. The accumulation of fluids in the eye can lead to a symptom known as "hepatitis of a blue eye" that causes the eye to seem opaque and colored blue. Inflammation may occur and eventually liver and kidney failure, causing excessive thirst, excessive urination, diarrhea, vomiting and seizures. A virus that causes dog hepatitis can usually be found all over the world so this disease is not limitedand. Dog hepatitis can be fatal and death can occur in just two hours after the first symptoms appear.

dogs who have dog hepatitis can recover if appropriate treatment is administered. Hospitalization is usually required because these dogs generally need intravenous fluids. Steroids can be administered to reduce inflammation and antibiotics may be prescribed to prevent secondary bacterial infections. Even with proper care some dogs succumb to dog hepatitis.

vaccines are available to protect dogs from this viral disease and are usually given as part of vaccination core veterinarians believe that dogs are necessary. These vaccines usually also protect from cough breeding cough, which is caused by a similar associated virus, but is usually not fatal. Puppies generally receive these vaccinations at the age of about eight to 12 weeks and is often recommended annual gymČe. Because dog hepatitis can be fatal, even if treated, prevention is often considered to be the most effective cure for disease.
