What is the plinth?
Soclus is a stone structure used in classical architecture. Traditionally, this stone block served as a column of the building. Today, plinths can act as a base for any number of structures, including sculptures or monuments. Depending on the architectural design of the structure, the plinth may vary from the basic stone block to one with complex details. It helps distribute the column load on a larger area of the Earth, allowing the column to safely carry heavier load than it is without a base. In some applications, the column sat directly on the top of the plinth and relied on gravity to hold the structure together. Other builders added pins or dowels to the center of the column to connect to the base. In rare cases, a plinth block and a column were carved out of a single piece of stone or marble, modern versions can be made of any number of materials. The stone is still popular for some applications, although concrete can be used to reduce costs and maintain a high level of strength anddurability. Wood and metal allow builders to create plinths with a unique surface and composite materials reduce the total weight of the structure while maintaining a high level of power.
The most basic plinth blocks consist of a single, unadorned stone. They may be square or rectangular, although some are carved into rounded shapes. More complicated plinths are highly decorative and are engraved in words or pictures.
In modern architecture, the term "SOKLUS" is used for other applications outside the base column or support base. It can refer to a large panel installed above the door. These door plates often have a family coat of arms or some other design of the stuffing of flowers, vineyards or other shapes. This panel is usually made of wood, although some external versions are made of marble or other form of stone.
In some parts of the world, the term “solid level”It also uses to indicate levels in the building. Splinty sits directly on the ground and serves as a base for a column or structure, so this term usually refers to the level of the ground building. Technically, it refers to the level that rests at the top of the basic system of the building.
