What is Durock?

Durock® is a plate of cement support produced by the United States Sádra Company, which is a subsidiary of USG Corporation, founded in 1901. Cement support is most often used as a floor or wall base in installing ceramics, porcelain or stone tiles. The cement support plate is called a number of names such as a cement plate, support plate or tile support. In addition, some refer to all cement boards such as Durack, which is the metamorphic version of the Durock®. It is very similar to most people refer to all plasters like Sheetrock®, which is actually another of the popular USG products.

Durock® consists of an aggregated core of the Portland cement, which is covered with a mesh element on one side. The smooth side is used for adhesive applications, while the network side is used for Thinset Mortar or THEN Application. Durock® can be evaluated with a utility knife so it breaks easilyfor do-it-yourselferpil. The seams should be scattered during installation. In addition, the seams must be found and pre -filled with mortar for the best results.

Support plate provides a level and support base for glass and ceramic mosaics, tiles, stone and brick. Whether you are using a cement plate in a new design or rebuilding, it can be installed on wood or steel frames in walls, floors, footrests, partitions, plates and ceilings. The cement plate is attached to cement screws, its own fasteners or nails.

Durock® cement board comes in two sizes. 4 inches x 4 inches are 5/16 inches wide and a 3 -inch cement plate is a wide ½ inches. The thinner Durock® offers less support, so it can be used for thinner tiles, while a stronger board will be needed for stronger tiles and floors with insufficient support due to the direct pressure that goes to them. Different thickeses of tIf they help maintain even transition areas on the floor.

One of the most common areas used by Durock® is in the bathroom because it is resistant to mold and moisture. The cement plate is essential where the water can run on the floor, but is mandatory for tiled showers or tiled areas above the bath. Durock® can also be used in the pool or sauna area. It also has applications around fireplaces and wood burning stoves. The product is incompatible and will not increase, soften, decompose, delamin or crumble according to the manufacturer.
