Many sculpins carry toxins in the spines and should therefore be processed with caution to avoid discomfort. Although toxin found in the spines of Sculpin is rarely fatal, it can cause skin irritation, sweating, nausea or dizziness. It has been shown that the immersion of the affected area into hot water alleviates the effects of toxin. As far as this is true, medical care should be found.

Some aquarists claim that sculpines, even though they lack the brilliant color of some tropical species, are quite an attractive and interesting accessory to the aquarium. In general, Sculpin prefers cold water and rocky habitus with many hiding spaces. Because sculpines are highly predatory, attention should be paid to which species are placed with sculpins,And live food should be provided for fish. In addition, sculptors prefer well circulated water and a filter system is recommended.
Sculpine is not considered an endangered type of fish, mainly because it is not a source of human food. Some areas of the sculpine habitat, especially the sculptor of fresh water, are subject to environmental degradation, but as a result, this widespread and customizable fish does not seem to be.
