What is the Spanish bayonet?

Spanish bayonet is a Yucca plant that can reach 15 feet (4.5 meters). The plant produces several strong stems similar to the trunk in medium dense clusters. Slightly serrated, stiff, straight leaves protrude from dense stems. The younger goes towards the upper part of the plant directly up, while older leaves towards the Spanish bayonet base. The Spanish bayonet is originally from North Carolina, Florida, Mexico and Western India, has been naturalized for most of the US and is widely cultivated as a spectacular garden display in the US and a lot of the world. These spines are able to penetrate heavy clothes and deliver a deep, painful injection. Therefore, it is advisable to grow this plant only in areas where people and pets are unlikely to have to clean the past.
