What is Tarboosh?
Tarboosh is a male hat that is usually made of felt. It has a flat top, no edge and fits firmly on the head. It is usually worn by Muslim men, either alone or under a turban. Tarbosh also has a silk tassel attached to the top. Red is the most common color for this hat. It was also called fez and Checheya . Fez is originally produced only in Fez in Morocco and is slightly smaller than Tarboosh. Regardless of the name, all hats of this type are similar to the shortened cone shape that narrows when they spread up from the head. In Palestine, two different types of this headband were often seen, Tarbush Maghribi and Tarbush istambuli . The first type was made of soft material and had an aza -ooiled shape. On the other hand, the second species had straight parties and was strict. The softer Tarboshes wore ordinary circuits and the rigid versions were worn by men.
starting in TurkeyAt the beginning of the 17th century, Tarbosh was the desired object of a formal dress for men. This changed in 1925, when the leader of the young Turks, Kemal Atatürk, forbade the hat in an effort to make the western Turkish fashion. His edict was not used well, resulting in riots.
Tarboosh was also used as part of the Egyptian military uniform under the government of Muhammad Ali, who ruled Egypt between 1805 and 1848. The soldiers were released by two Tarbooshes per year. Initially, all these hats had to be imported, but Ali commissioned a factory that began to produce Egyptian Tarbooshes in 1825. In time Tarbosh became a headband of all government members, but in 1952 the Republican Goegypt's vernment removed official head wear.
29 October 1932 This hat almost caused serious diplomatic development between the two countries. Egyptian diplomatic envoy to Turkey, Abdel Malek Hamza Bey, arrived at the celebration of the Republican Day dressed in his Tarboosh to make her Turkish officialsThey said he should remove him because Atatürk would offend his presence. Bey refused and left the celebration. Although the Turkish leader apologized for the incident, the official attitude of the Turkish government was that there was no apology.
