What is the name of the folk name?

Animals and plants are known under several different names. Scientific names for organisms are usually derived from Latin, while the common or folk name is generally in regional language. The folk name of an animal or plant is the most famous term, while a more colloquial nomenclature, sometimes called the "name of the farmer", is less known for organisms outside a particular place. The monkery or alouatta caraya gets its name from an extremely loud cry that radiates while the cloudy leopard gets its name from the cloud spots on its gray or brown skin. The electrical eel or Electrophorus electricus is named for its ability to supply shocks and insects of walks ( diapheromera femorata ) is named for its behavior and appearance.

Organisms can also be named for the area in which they are found, such as the Colorado ( bufo alvarius ) or a plant known as Mountain Garland, also known as Clarkia Hybrids . Lido's nameThe name of the deer tick or black -brown is referred to where it is commonly located, attached to the deer, as well as its physical marking. Similarly, Cactus Wren ( campylorhynchus brunneicapillus ) acquires its folk name from its cactus station. Some species are given by their folk name for the whole continents or countries such as an African gray parrot ( psittacus erithacus ) and English sparrows, or passers -by domesticus , which is also known to the ordinary names Sparrow and Town Sparw.

In the world of mammals, one animal can go through many different names. For example, Cougar ( Felis Concolor ) is also often called Mountain Lion, Puma and Catamount. Skunks, known as mefitis mefitis , often also have the folk name Polecats or Civet Cats. African wild ( Connocharees taurinus ) is sometimes known as a water buffalo or gnu. Domesticated dog ( canis lupis known ) is known under many different names: Hound, Mutt, Mastiff and CUR.

Some plants and animals have folk names based on a person who discovered, developed or kept them. This is especially true for flowers and trees such as Abbott Pink, Bluebonnet developed by Carroll Abbott. Organisms are sometimes named in honor of someone except the discoverer or creator. Goffin's Kocatoo ( Lophochroa Goffini ) was appointed his discoverer in honor of a close friend. Several recently discovered insects were named after celebrities as Laurel and Hardy, rock musician Mick Jagger and billionaire Bill Gates.
