What is a water rat?

Water rat is specially adapted for hunting and living near water. There are 18 unrelated species of these rodents that are found on several continents. Muscrate, water oxen, Rakalis and water rats Golden Bellites fall under this classification.

While all rats are muridae , they are not all closely related. Some species known as water rats are not really rats, but all are rodents. Many of them are wrong with other animals such as beavers or platypus. Most of them are carnivores, but some are not. Animals known as water rats differ greatly in size and habitat.
