What is Coachwhat Snake?
Snak Coachwhat, Masticophis Flagellum (M.F.), is part of the Colubridae family. Snakes in this species have narrow, elongated bodies with heavy scales above rounded eyes. They extend from approximately 3 feet (0.9 m) to more than 8 feet (2.4 m). Snakes coachwhat differ depending on subspecies and geography.
The Red Coachwhat Snake, M.F. Piceus, inhabits deserts, sage and pastures in southern California, Arizona and Nevada. The front halves of their bodies are often red, pink or black. Some have wide black or brown cross belts. The color gradually grows lighter towards the tail. They are good climbers and can rise to shrubs and trees.
