What is amygdalin?

amygdalin is a phytochemical derived from seeds of various fruits, including apricots and bitter almonds. The schedule of this compound releases cyanide. It is used in the treatment of cancer at different times since the 18th century, but its use is very controversial today. The United States, such as the National Cancer Institute, consider it ineffective in the treatment of cancer and dangerous use. However, supporters consider this to be an alternative treatment of cancer. In the United States there is Laetrile® molecule, which contains part of the structure of amygdalin. On the other hand, in Mexico, Letrile is another substance composed of amygdalin, which was isolated from apricot pits. There are two theories. One of them was that cancer evolves due to vitamin B17 deficiency, but there are no data for this theory. Ohypotheses were that being marked as food supplement allowed a compound to prevent drug control from the administration of food and the United States (FDA) drugs (FDA).

FDA has not approved the use of Laetrile® and is prosecuted by the seller who sell it. Clinical studies of amygdalin suggest that this compound is ineffective in the treatment of cancer and has toxic side effects. For example, in 1982 there was a test with 178 patients. Tumors have increased in all patients. Several patients also suffered from cyanide poisoning as a side effect of treatment.

Laetrile adherents questioned the methodology of this study. They also questioned the financial motifs of the study and remained convinced that Letrile is an effective treatment. In Mexico there are clinics that offer this treatment to patients with cancer from other countries.

There are several different ways to be administered. It can be considered a pill, injection or intravenously. Everyone may have side effects, but it is assumed that in the form of a pill it is the highest risk of cyanide poisoning. Side effects include vomiting, nausea, dizziness, headaches, liver damage and coma. People died of using Amygdali pillsWell, which are particularly dangerous to use with high doses of vitamin C.

Laetril promoters as cancer treatment say that relaxed cyanide specially focuses on cancer cells. It was found that this is not false in laboratory studies. It has been found that cyanide affects both normal cells and cancer cells in the same way. Amygdalin seems to be one of the toxins of nature.
