What is an alpine currant?
Alpine currants are a bush from the family of Grossurlariaceae plants, a family that includes most of the currant and gooseberry. It is a deciduous shrub, which means it loses its leaves at the end of its vegetation season. As the name suggests, the alpine currants are found to grow wild in the Alps area, but the plant is also indigenous for most parts of Central and Northern Europe. It is a resistant plant that tolerates growth in different climates and conditions and is usually grown as a decorative garden shrub or landscape.
Alpine fish shrubs usually grow to heights between two and six feet (half a meter to about two meters) and have strong, abundant leaves. Pale green leaves are palmates, which means that they have small, individual leaflets from the base of each leaf, which is an arrangement that freely resembles the palm of the human hand with their fingers stretched. Alpine currants also have small, yellow-green flowers that begin with in the middle of spring.
These shrubs also have round, bright red berries that look like fruits relatedRedcurrant. Unlike redcurrants, however, the berries of the alpine currant have a bitter, unpleasant taste that makes them virtually inedible. The occurrence of berries on bushes grown in domestic gardens is rare because plant nurseries generally have only male plants available. Male plants do not bear fruit and cannot pollinate women if there are none.
Alpine currants prefer growth in a place that receives a lot of sunlight, although plants will also tolerate the Shaier area. The shrubs grown in shady conditions will not be so abundant and their leaves will be less developed. Plants can be grown in different soil conditions, from sandy to clays. They have a resistant root structure that allows them to tolerate the plant of highly oblique ground, a property that is useful if one planted with regard to control of soil erosion.
these shrubs do not need a remarkably large amount ofBut they prefer a consistent level of moisture. Adding compost and compost to the soil helps maintain moisture levels and improve soil drainage. Plants are susceptible to pests such as aphids and caterpillars, and fungal infections such as fungal rust and foliage spots, although these conditions can be minimized by maintaining a growing area and without removing all plants that show symptoms of the disease. Like most dense plants, these shrubs require pruning to remove old growth and dead branches. Alpine currants should be cut in the summer after their flowers appeared.
