What is the Egyptian tortoise?

Egyptian tortoise is a species of Mediterranean tortoises from deserts and partial deserts of North Africa. These turtles are also popular pets. They are now considered almost extinct in the wild, probably due to the decline of the illegal domestic animals. They usually reach a length of about 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 centimeters) and usually feed on leaves and grass. The Egyptian turtle is usually placed on five eggs a year, and newly hatched turtles can achieve sexual maturity for up to five years.
