What is the eyebrow window?
The eyebrow window is a narrow, elliptical vaulted window without sides, usually located on the front of the roof of the building where it would be VIEMER. It is so named because the roof material transmits above it similarly to the eyebrows above the eye. From medieval origin, the windows of the eyebrows can be found in old strokes in Europe and large houses of the American Victorian era. Building in modern homes are expensive, but very attractive and for them is available to treat windows.
On the eyebrow window, there are no sides like a common hang that looks like a box with a roof. The shingles go directly across the top of the window in the uninterrupted wavy line. The eyebrow window usually does not open, but brings sunlight to the upper rooms and attic spaces and breaks the roof line. The eyebrow window first appeared in medieval and dusty cottages, as a way to admit light and air into the structures of heavy roof.
Many American versions can be found on Queen Anne's houses and the second empire built in the last part of the 19th century. At that time, the American Victorians were in excess, and the resulting architecture was Mishmash shields, lining, all types of windows, towers and other functions. The eyebrow window was probably responsible for reviving medieval styles and the need for light and ventilation in dark upper stories. Architect Henry Hobson Richardson first popularized them in his houses in the style of Boston Shingle. Later in the 1920s and 1930s were used in simpler bungalows of craftsmen.
Modern eyebrow window is usually made to measure. The shingling structure is sometimes demanding and requires a supplier with experience in solving their unique geometry. The roofers can consider the window as a separate entity or to trigger shingles directly above it, but in any case it is the intention to produce a collection -free view. Usually this type of window will cost three times what a roof skylight would be due to the difficulty of designing and installation. Newer patterns are more functional than originals and can even be functional.
Simple windows for the eyebrow window is suspended on the arch, which allows the fabric to cover it down. Since most of the visy and their own windows, such as this, are installed to add light, white or pale curtains or ciers, would be a better treatment than heavy curtains. Some windows companies offer special curved or flexible rods that can organize the collected Sunburst treatment as a large fan that covers the glass. These, together with their own blinds, still allow light to pass through the eyebrow window, but maintain privacy.
