What is bindweed?

Bindweed is a common name for plants belonging to the Convolvulaceae family and the genus Convolvulus. The genus consists of about 250 unique plant species that can be easily recognized by their large flowers, which are shaped as trumpets. Most types of joining are either vines, which are plants that rise, support vertically by tendrils or suction cups, or bines, which are also climbing plants that use the shoots to climb. Plants are found in most areas of the world and some species such as convolvulus arvensis or Field bindweed are considered uncontrollable pests that cause great damage in areas where food crops are grown. Other species, such as tricolor convolvulus or dwarf morning glory, are grown in gardens as decorative flowering plants.

Field bindweed is an invasive plant that can destroy agricultural crops. It is a fast growing weed whose growth rate is difficult to control. This type of bindings can be reproduced from the seed,But it also gives out a complex system of deeply growing roots and rhizomes or underground stems that help the plant spread and expand quickly. Around the soil near the area where the field grows, it can cause roots to spread even more, so farmers sometimes try to apply some control over the plant very carefully by preparing their land. Some chemical agents may be effective in killing this kind, but often requires many years of repeated use of these chemicals to fully manifest.

Not all bindweed species are considered weeds. Some species are grown in gardens because they have attractive flowers and also attract butterflies. Flowers are usually pink or white, but flowers are also blue, purple and yellow shades. One of the most important species that is grown as a decorative plant is tricolor convolvulus or the dwarf morning fame, what má bright blue flowers.

Morning fame is annual indigenous plants for the Mediterranean arena, but grow almost any place that has a similarly mild climate. They are usually grown from seeds available from horticultural stores. While plants are seedlings, it is best to grow them inside. Once the frost retreats, they can be transplanted outside. The dwarf Morning Glory prefers to be planted in a place where there is a lot of sunshine. It only needs a slight amount of water because it has high temperatures and often grows in sandy soil.
