What is Cyperaceae?
Cyperaceae is a scientific name for the family of flowering plants in the order of Poales. Cyperaceae family is 10. The largest family of plants on the ground. Most species in the family grow in wet to wet areas. The general name for the Cyperaceae family is Sedge, which is the common name of many species. Other common species names include "Rush" and "Bulrush". Although some species grow in forests and other relatively dry environments, the most common environment for Cyperaceae are swamps, peat bogs and other wetlands and along rivers and lakes. They are often dominant in these areas. The largest variety grows in the tropics and in mild areas, but Cyperaceae species occur to the north as sub-arctic. In regions where there are extensive theft and rush, they are an important source of food and shelter for wildlife and play an essential role in soil stabilization with their roots.
Most species in this family resemble grass. Many of them have solid triangular stems with leaves arranged around the stem in sets afterthree. The leaves are straps and upright. Flowers that grow in groups on consumption are inconspicuous. Fruits are usually three -sided, dry and contain only one seed.
Rushes and Slidges played a big role in ancient and indigenous cultures and provided a raw material for a number of objects, including woven baskets, sandals and even roofs and houses. Cyperus papyrus, or papyrus that grows along the Nile, was extremely important in the economy of ancient Egypt. Another species, Schoenoplectus californicus, or California Bulrush, provided raw materials for ships and floating islands by Lake Titicaca in Peru.
Papyrus is still an important source of fuel in Egypt and North Africa. Domestic cultivars of the yellow nuts are the crop of food and the water chestnut of the Chinese cuisine is another tuber. Seded and Rush species make a good decision to stabilize and reclaim wetlands on the banks of the river. Equipment for processedWaste waters grow some family members in modifications and tanks where plants remove excess nutrients from the water.
Cyperaceae family members include a number of widely spread weeds that cause economically significant problems in crops and pastures. Some are considering purple walnut milk, Cyperus rotundus, the worst weeds in the world because it focuses the crop in the tropics and warmer mild areas. Wild varieties of yellow nuts are a widespread problem in colder areas.
