What is Demosectic?

Demodectic mange is common to see the variety of mange in young dogs. It is also known as Red Mange, Puppy Mange and Follicular Mange and is caused by the Demodex Canis mites. These skin mites live mainly in hair follicles and are mostly harmless.

skin mites of different varieties live in most mammals, including people without causing any type of irritation. They are less than 1/100 inches long, (about 0.25 mm.) And it is not possible to see them without using a microscope. Demodex canis mites resemble small alligators and live for about 25-30 days. During this time, they mature, confusing and laying eggs that will lead to the next generation of mites living on the host organism. They can only be transmitted by direct contact from one dog to another because they cannot survive on other species or outside the host body.

For most dogs, the divers of demodex canis do not cause any problems and the dog and the dog owners do not even realize the mites are there, because mites are not a problem for healthy and mature dogs. Canine, who have a problem with mites are those who have low levels of immunity, which is usually observed in puppies, older dogs and dogs who have diseases such as pillows or heart worms or even cancer. Puppies most often get demosectic mange after getting infected with mites from their mother.

In most cases, dogs with demodectic mang get just a few isolated lesions on their body. These lesions are small and are generally found around the face and lower back. In a small number of cases there are several larger lesions that can cover the whole body of the puppy if it is sufficiently serious. The most common symptoms of demodectic mang are hair loss, oily or damp appearance and red, crispy leather. Not all cases cause itching that is usually associated with mange.

Many cases of demosectic mangoes will recover until the puppy is three to six months of age, at this point, the immune system matures to the point where Demodex mites can handle. However, there are some cases that will require treatment. The most common way to treat this type of manger is through local creams, decreases and shampoos that get rid of mites. There are two most common types of these washing either benzoyl peroxide or rottenone. The therapeutic courses usually take place for two weeks and are completed, one scratching of the skin shows that there are no longer mites in the skin. In a short period of time, the skin will recover, the hair abrasions and the dog will be considered cured from the mange.

Demodectic mange can also affect cats, although they are two different types of mites, demodex cati and demodex gatoi, which cause this infection in cats. Symptoms are mostly the same as dog versions of this condition, and the main difference is that lesions are also commonly viewed on the feet and body instead of most around the head. Cats that have a demodectic mange, which is also called demodicosis in the felines, jsOU tested on diabetes, leukemia and other conditions that could endanger the immune system of the cat. Cats treatment is the same as for dogs; The veterinarians prescribe the current cream, shampoo or immersion to get rid of mites that cause the condition. This will continue until the cat already has mites.
