What is Duranta?
Duranta is a genus of plants that is part of the Verbenaceae family. It is named after the Castore Durantes, which was an Italian botanist. This genus contains more than 30 species of shrubs that come from the southern United States, parts of Central America and parts of South America. Most shrubs in this family are perennials that can survive in heavy soils and tolerate both sunny and shaded areas.
Gardeners choose plants in the genus Durant for many reasons, but the characteristics that stand out is their remarkable ability to prosper in variable conditions. Most species in the genus adapt to the climate. In warmer areas, KEB or tree will grow in height 15-20 feet (4.5-6.1 m), while in areas with a harder winter the shrub can grow either as annual or permanent and reaches a height of 6-8 feet (1.8-2.4 m). In regions that are in the eight USDA or below or below, shrubs are usually grown as summer annuals.
Duranty types are easy to maintain; The only thing they require is regular wateringand occasional pruning. Most species in this family do not require fertilizers. Another attractive factor of this family is the ornamental appearance of keb. Most species have a characteristic dark blue belt on each petal. Duranta ert is a popular species that has five light blue to purple petals on each tubular flower. Hums and butterflies are attracted to flowers that can create a picturesque scene. The shrub also develops yellow berries that hang in bundles.
There are several shrub uses in this family. They are usually grown as a street tree or as a hedge depending on the species. Some species are ideal for empty spaces in the garden or along the walls. Other species are ideal for growers placed on terraces.
The primary interest of plants in the genus Durant is the thittism of EIR for insect damage. The caterpillars, scale and nematodes feed on leaves and roots of the shrub. Scales are very small insects that usually remain in one place, which prevents gardeners to makethey noticed them. The common symptoms of contamination include yellowing of the leaves and twig. Nematodes are round worms that are located in the soil and feed on the roots of the bushes.
Another problem of some species in this family is the toxicity of fruit. Especially Duranta ert produces poisonous fruit. The shrub should not be planted in areas visited by children.
