What is echinopsis?
echinopsis is a family of cactus indigenous for South America. The Echinopsis or a group of species contains 128 types of cacti. They spill from large varieties of similar tree to small hybrid varieties, which are popular with cactus collectors. The plant has a short and mainly similar shape and produces more cylindrical, clustered stems that reach up to 1 foot (30 cm) in height and up to 2.5 inches (6 cm) in diameter. The stems are produced in clusters to reduce the amount of exposed surface area, minimizing the amount of heat lost at colder temperatures. This allows Hedgehog cactus to survive at slightly colder temperatures and at higher altitudes than some other cacti. The hedgehog cactus has a straight or slightly curved middle spine up to 2 inches (5 cm) D of a smaller radial spine, which protrude from under the central spine at a sharp angle.
Cactus of the sea hedgehog, CORYPHANTHA ECHINUS, Texas is a native of Echinopsis, who is also known as the cactus of the rhinoceros and the prickly cactus of the hive. The plant is so popular with cactus collectors that it is under the threat in the wild, where excessive collecting wild samples have seriously exhausted the number of cacti wild sea hedgehog. The sea urchin cactus is also at risk of losing habitats, agricultural methods and the use of herbicides. Above all, the singular globe, the cactus of the sea hedgehog may cluster or branch, especially in the wild in advanced maturity.
Sea flowers will be fully widespread at noon if there is a full sunlight, but after one or two hours of defect. The plant blooms from April to August. The middle spine is not present until the cactus of the sea hedgehog reaches graduation. When the central spine develops, they are about 1 inch (2.5 cm). The radial spine is present from immature and almost completely obscure the stems of the plant.
cordon cactus, echinopsis Atacamensis A zena species origin in Chile, which grows to heights of 20 feet (6 m). This variety is able to tolerate some shadow, but prefers a full sun. The average minimum temperature must not fall below 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius) in its growing area, because Cordon Cactus is not tolerant to low temperatures. Cordon Cactus, like most cacti, does not need a large amount of water and excessive watering can cause root rot.
