What is Laelia?

Laelia is a genus Orchida originally in Central and South America with the largest concentration of species in Mexico. It is one of the most important families of orchids gardening because the flowers are beautiful and plants are relatively easy to grow. The genera were probably named after the women of the ancient Roman elite families Laelius. The petals of many species have a curly look. Some species have a rare and highly valuable albino variety. Anceps , grows on the rocks. There are many Laelia subspecies and hybrids, especially with closely related Cattleya , Brassavola and sophorinitis . Laelia orchids bloom in autumn or spring.

While the plants of these families are generally easy to grow, their ideal conditions vary depending on their natural environment. Many species are very resistant to drought. Many of them also grow in rainforests, where they experience hot, wet years and cold dry winters. l. Albida , l./em>, l. autumnalis and l.

l. Albida is the northernmost type of Laelia in Mexico. It is equipped with small, light pink flowers and is very cold tolerant, but must be held dry during the winter. l. Albida flowers at the end of winter until early in the spring and is best grown on a cork or hard wood to be planted in the soil.

l. Specialosa , also called the Mayflower Orchid, is another kind of origin in Mexico. It has a fragrant flow of lavenderers that bloom in the summer, and a large white label with purple spots. Mayflower Orchid also has an albino or album variety. l. Specialosa is drought resistant and tolerates cold warm temperatures.

Many Laelia species originally from South America is now classified as sophoronitis instead, although OzThe learning remains controversial and some growers have not accepted this change. It is common to see plants that are still referred to as Laelia . One such plants is l. Purpurata or s. Purpurata , originally from Brazil. l. Purpurata contains fragrant, pale flowers with pink striped label. The plant prefers bright light and cool to warm temperatures and flowers from late spring to fall.
