What is Mahonia?

Mahonia is a genus of evergreen shrubs belonging to the Berberidaceae family. These shrubs naturally grow in the regions of East Asia, Europe and North America, where the climate is cold and damp. The name of this family was derived from Bernard McMahon, a gardener who discovered these plants at the beginning of the 19th century. Of these plants, 70 recorded types of these permanent shrubs can be observed. However, the characteristics of Mahonia are their leaves that have medium to large Holly similar leaflets that are about 6 inches (15 cm).
