What is Malus?

Malus is a genus of shrubs and trees that include about 35 species. The genus is known for its fruit, commonly known as apples. Usually Malus species are found in the northern hemisphere and can grow in a wide range of climates. Native trees grow in North America, Europe and Asia. Compared to other species, they are relatively small, with the largest growing to about 40 feet (12 meters), although most are much smaller than this.

Malus tree leaves are usually a maximum of 4 inches (about 10 cm) in length, some of which are as small as 1 inch (about 3 cm). The trees have a thick sheet coverage through a thick network of small twigs. Many flower trees during the late part of spring, although the exact date varies according to the species. The flowers usually have five petals that bloom in a wide range of colors.

Malus trees are similar to globes and usually grow to a width of about 3 inches (8 cm). There are some species, drought as a set of apple that has a much larger fruit than this. The center of the fruit of the Malus tree usually contains one or twoseeds, with some types containing three.

Although certain types of apples are consumed around the world, many species actually have inedible fruit. This is usually because the fruit is too acidic to eat. The crab apple is an example of a species commonly grown for their fruit, which is used in certain types of juice. These trees are also grown for aesthetic reasons because they have attractive flowers.

Apple trees are reproduced by cross pollination. This happens through insects, such as bees that visit the flowers of one tree for nectar and then transmit pollen to the back. No natural Malus trees can be pollinated, so reproduction relies on insects and other animals.

One of the most important species is Malus Domestica. This species produces Edible, sweet apples and is considered one of the most grown trees in the world. Natively is a tree from Asia, but today withIt grows all over the world. The trees are relatively small, with thick leaves and white flowers. The tree usually flowers during the center of spring and is deciduous.

Some Maluse examples include southern crab, sweet crab and European wild apple. Several species were grown for specific purposes. For example, some cultivars are polluting.
