What is muscari?
Muscari is the name of the genus for flowering perennial, which is also called grape hyacinth. Some botanists prefer to use the synonymous name of the genus, muscarimia . There are approximately 30 different species in this family, most of which come from the Mediterranean and Southwest Asia. These bulbous perennials are often planted in gardens, usually along the garden borders.
Depending on the species, the leaves of plants in the family can be linear, a spear in a shape or a teaspoon. In addition, the leaves can be green, blue-green or gray-green colors. Leaves of some species can reach 10 to 12 inches (about 25.4 to 30.5 cm), while in other species the leaves may be much shorter.
Muscari flowers are usually in the shape of a bell closed. They usually grow in stem clusters called Racems. When flowers in clusters are particularly tight, they look similar to clusters. The flowers are usually different shades of blue, with some species white along the flower mouth. QuenchOže are usually relatively small, raceems can grow to 5 inches (about 12.7 cm) in length.
Cultivation is easy for most Muscari species. Because they grow from bulbs, usually it is enough to plant bulbs during the autumn months. In general, the bulbs should be planted below about 4 inches (10.2 cm) of slightly fertile soil. In addition, plants prefer full sunlight and moist soil that drains well.
Muscari bulbs tend to expand in the number and be too overloaded under the soil. As a result, offshoots can be separated from the original bulb during the late summer months. They can then be re -equipped to give them more space. This process of division and planting bulbs can also help them maintain their vitality.
At least one kind of muscari, m. Comosum , has an edible bulb. This species, also called tassel grape hyacinth, cipollini or jEdlý Muscari, comes from the Mediterranean region. Its bulb has flavors similar to garlic, porous or onion, making it a popular accessory to Mediterranean cooking. In addition, flowers are often used by perfume manufacturers because they smell sweet.
In terms of medicinal properties, several types of flower muscari, including m. Comosum , can be used to produce a high antioxidant and vitamin C wine. Other experts also cook bulbs to make diuretic tea.
