What is Mushing?

Mushing is the practice of using dogs on sledges for recreation or transport. It can also be practiced as a competitive sport. The term Mushing comes from a dog -used call - "Mush!" It is assumed that it comes from French March , which means "go" or "run" but "chat!" He is more frequently heard by calling in Mushing Sport. Mushing is the most popular in North America and Europe and it is a state sport in Alaska. Mushing as a sport is associated with several organizational bodies, such as the international Federation SDADOG SPORTS (IFSS). Supporters hope to get a place at the Winter Olympics. Many people also practice Mushing simply for fun and exercise rather than competitively. Those who use Mushing as a practical form of transport in the snow are more comfortable with dogs than with the machine and consider dogs more reliable. They can also provide a company on a long lonely snow trip.

Mushing can use different use configurations. Most races use dogs used in pairs, such as horses that pull a carriage or Santa's reindeer. Alternatively, they can be used in one line.

In Greenland, every dogs have each of them and pull the sled in the fan formation. This type of harness allows dogs more space to maneuver, but is not practical in trees. If the terrain is rough or covered with sharp ice, or if the trip is long, dogs are equipped with shoes to protect your feet.

Dogs in the pouring team are divided into groups depending on their function in the team and their location, similar to athletes in team sport. Dogs are on the front of the harness. They are responsible for finding the trail and setting the tempo for the rest of the team. There may be one or two main dogs in the team. The main dog can rarely be unprofessionally decorated.
