What is Pachyphytum?

Pachyphytum is a genus of succulent plants that are endemic for different regions in Mexico. Their leaves are extremely strong and come in different colors, many in shades muted green. Plants can be grown from seeds, but in kindergartens and gardens they are usually grown by planting leaf cutting directly into the soil. Plants in this family are relatively hardy and common in gardens.

There are about a dozen different varieties of this juicy family. All of them have strong leaves, although in some species the leaves are aimed at the ends, while in others the ends are rounded. As succulents, plants have an extraordinary ability to hold water and therefore their leaves are so thick. Plants Pachyphytum generally do not grow to very high or large.

Light grayish is the most common color for Pachyphytum . Some varieties also come in shades of pink, blue or red. Fuzzy material that looks soft covers some kinds. Plants Pachyphytum produces small flowers, often in shades of white or pink, which after pollination turns into a seed pod.

One common variety Pachyphytum is known as Moonstone. These plants have large, oomatle leaves and grow to a height of 10 inches (25 cm). The leaves of the lunar stone are light green with pink tips. Another common Pachyphytum is a jewelry plant, sometimes called lavender pebbles. Leaves of this kind Pachyphytum change from silver to the bar in winter and are covered with fuzzy with white powder.

Most Pachyphytum plants are abundant and easy to grow. They tolerate the cold very well, easily survive at temperatures up to 20 degrees Fahrenheit (-7 degrees Celsius). Although they are not doing well in longer periods of extreme heat, they can tolerate it for a short time, especially placement in the shadow. Plants do best in partial sun, located whereThey can receive direct sunlight during the coldest part of the day and shadow when it is warmer.

Healthy Pachyphytum requires a soil that blends well. A mixture of soil and sand is a good medium for growing this family of plants, as the roots of waterlogged water can rot the plant. It is not necessary to water the plant Pachyphytum often because it can keep water for a long time.
