What is Pittosporum?

Member of the Pittosporaceae family, a genus Pittosporum contains about 28 species of large shrubs and small trees that have a great change in appearance. Some species have attractive leaves, while others have fragrant flowers. The most common flower colors are purple, yellow and white and the leaves move in color from silver to dark glossy green. The types of smaller Pittosporum are sometimes in a pot, but larger varieties can grow up to 30 feet (just over 9 meters). Pittosporums come from New Zealand, Australia and China and can be grown outdoors in milder growing regions.

When watering Pittosporum should be used well drained, aluminum soil. If the climate is suitable, it can tolerate almost any type of land when planted in the ground. Pruning is often not required, but should be performed in the summer months if necessary. In warm, seaside areas, Pittosporum can be used to create Hedges. The leaves are strong, leather and dark green and can grow to 4 inches (about 10 cm) long and 1.5 inches (almost 4 cm) wide. This variety of cheese is considered to be highly toxic.

While it can only grow to its full height of 30 feet (9 meetalies) in their mild native setEdí survives cooler temperatures more often than any other species in this genus. The trunk can grow up to 1 foot (30 cm) of the perimeter and has a dark colored peel. The shiny, evergreen leaves turn into bronze-violet color as they age and grow from black or purple stems. The flowers are small, dark purple flowers that grow individually and emit a scent similar to honey.

Pittosporum crassifolium or the silver queen is a large shrub that grows up to 18 feet (about 5.5 meters) high. Silver leafs are hard and strong with gray fluff on the underside. In May, matt purple flowers are produced in dense clumps.
