What is the sarcoptic mange?

Sarcoptic Mange is a type of skin infection that is most commonly seen in dogs, although it may occur temporarily in humans, cats and other animals. Like other conditions known as "Mange", sarcoptical mange is characterized by the development of crispy skin, small lesions, hair loss and intense itching on the body. The owners of pets must have the dog examined in the veterinarian to confirm the diagnosis of sarcoptic manga and to obtain the most effective treatment, because several related skin conditions look similar and requires different treatment. Sarcoptic Mange is sometimes referred to as "dog scabies" or "scabies", which can cause some confusion because mites that infect dogs and humans actually differ slightly. The mites are plunged into the skin to lay eggs, causing inflammation, itching, and the development of numerous small red pustules. If the infection is allowed to persist, it slowly expands, moves from the abdomen and legs to the head and edges of the ears and causes considerable discomfort.

The veterinarian can sometimes diagnose a sarcoptic mange that scratches the skin. Scratching can also be used to exclude other causes of infection such as demosectic mang. If scratching the skin reveals the presence of mites or excludes other causes, the veterinarian can prescribe treatments such as drops, local lotions, shampoos, pills or injections.

It is important to be aware of this treatment for certain breeds of dogs dangerous and that treatment for use on other animals may not work on dogs. Likewise, the treatment of mange for dogs will not be effective in other animals and it can even be dangerous. For example, permethrin creams that are commonly used to control insects on dogs are deadly for cats. Folk remedies, such as current applications of engine oil and other substances, are also very dangerous.

If one dog has a sarcoptic mange, it is likely that other dogs will have it,And they should be treated at the same time. If the infected dog has teammates or friends, their owners should be informed so that they can also handle their dogs. Dogs with sarcoptic manger should be isolated from other animals and people in the home and their bed linen should be thoroughly washed in extremely hot water to remove mites and eggs.
