What is Sargassum?

Sargassum is a large family of seaweed, which prefers the open waters of the tropics, although some species can be found in holding rocks closer to the coast. Biologists and lay members are referred to as "Sargassum", an example of a situation where the scientific name of something is also its common name. Many people are familiar with the Sargassum concept, thanks to the fame of Sargasso Sea, a remarkable feature in the Atlantic Ocean, which has been the subject of discussion and comments for hundreds of years. Sargassum is characterized by long highly branched leaves that can cause it to look almost leaf, and many of them have bladder filled with air that help them float. In open water, these bladder keeps free sargassum floating near the water surface so that it can photosynthesize energy. In the areas of Sargassum, the bottom of these bladder helps to reach the lights towards the light and form the forests of seaweed, which gently wool wool.

For Sargassum there is a number of uses. For example, in some regions it is collected as fertilizer. It is also a source of food, especially in Japan, where it can be added to soups and fermented with other ingredients in soy sauce to create a specific taste. Many animals call Sargassum Home because seaweed provides shelters of their rich leaves, along with shelter from predators and food source.

Sargasso Sea is a large part of the Atlantic Ocean, which is often covered with the mats of this interesting seaweed. Travelers were initially very confused by a region that looked bizarre with the mats of floating seaweed, which were sometimes strong enough to suffocate the ship's progress, and assumed that other than seaweed, the Sargasso of the sea was barren. This is not really the case. The seaweed hosts a number of animals and Sargasso Sea also plays an important role in the development of European and North American eels traveling to the area, ABy put eggs.

Closer to the coast, Sargassum often occurs in combination with other sea algae and creates fresh underground forests that are full of various fascinating animals. Sargassum is a generally dark brown to green color, with many branches of leaves and slightly sticky texture. You can also hear Sargassum called "Gulfweed", especially in the southern United States.
