What is an African golden cat?

African gold cat or Profelis aurata is a jungle cat that inhabits African rainforests. Despite its name, the color of the African golden cats generally ranges from gray to orange and reddish -brown, some specimens show melanist black from excessive amounts of melanin in their hair. Some cats have places and some not. Their heads look disproportionately small for the size of their bodies. The period of cat pregnancy is approximately 75 days, with one to three kittens born to each litter. At birth, the young can weigh anywhere between 6 and 8 ounces (170 and 235 grams) and are shut down after three to four months. They mature for about 22-24 months and are known to live for 12 years.
