What is Cthulhu Mythos?

Cthulhu Mythos is a fictitious universe created by the famous American horror author H.P. Lovecraft in the 1920s. Although it was originally created by Lovecraft, Cthulhu Mythos was sampled and widespread by many other authors. In general, stories set in mythos Cthulhu are ideas and themes originally created by Lovecraft and many authors who write in Mythos are trying to expand or clarify the original ideas of Lovecraft. Mythos received his name from Cthulhu, a water demigod, which is referred to in many stories, and is considered the most popular of Lovecraft's creations. The universe is dominated by deities called large old or simply old and their counterparts, older gods. Although in most stories, these external gods once ruled the country and are now in hibernation, they promise to wake up one day and dominated the world again. By building on Lovecraft's and Derleth's stories, these writers helped Cthulhu Mythos to get a small degree of acquaintance.

Cthulhu Mytos has spread to several other forms of media. References to old or location and characters of the story of Lovecraft are often referred to rock bands.
