What is verbal IQ?

Verbal intelligence quotient (IQ) measures the ability of an individual to use language to analyze and solve problems. It is often measured with the performance IQ in the IQ WAIS test of adult intelligence (WAIS). A shorter, separate verbal IQ test can also be performed. It includes skills such as thinking and understanding of abstract and specific ideas that relate to language. Verbal IQ also includes their overall understanding of terms, comparison and other similar characteristics of language. This includes problems that present themselves in a logical, literary and social environment.
