What is a greenery?

Zellige is an art form that started in Morocco. The tiles are painted or glazed, then planted in different patterns on walls, floors or ceilings to create a decorative mosaic pattern. Traditionally, tiles are clay, ceramic or terracotta and usually have a diameter of about 4 inches (10 cm). Tiles

are usually made of hexagons, squares, triangles or other geometric shapes. These tiles are made to fit perfectly and then applied to a surface that were designed to decorate. Since the work used to create them is so accurate, there is often no material between the tiles. Other types of Zellige allow a small amount of filler between each of the tiles.

The texture and color of each tile generally differ from those around it. Since the tiles are traditionally cut, fired and painted by hand, this characteristic is part of the appearance of Zellige. Colors can be semi -transparent and in various shades full of color, metal orEven pearl. I am painted by complex patterns that form a larger pattern in assembly in the final location. The construction differs from full color in different shades on tiles to complex hand -painted patterns that contain large details.

Grendy tiles can be used to cover almost any surface, from walls and floors to ceilings. They can also be used as accents for the Backspashes or bathrooms and are traditionally used to decorate outdoor fountains. Since they are designed to be hard, they are well suitable for indoor or outdoor installation. It is easy to clean, making them a popular choice for areas that are often soaked.

decorating a large space with complex mosaics made of these hand -made tiles was once a sign of money and power. In the city of FES, which is located in the heart of Morocco, the tiles would often be commissioned to design a wall mastLby Zellige for the government's intake of the building and for the homes of royal and high -ranking rich citizens. Mosques were often decorated with these mosaics, from walls and floors to the courtyard outside. These complex tiles continued to create a traditional North African atmosphere in any modern areas where they are installed.

The

method for creating tiles has been in practice for centuries, and many craftsmen in Morocco continue in traditional ways of creating these decorative tiles. Craftsmen usually study under another in artistic form, passing knowledge and traditional technology over the years. Authentic tiles and mosaic masterpieces can be found in homes around the world.
