What is the thigh bone?
The thigh bone, which is also called femur, is the bone inside the human body located between the hip and the knee of each leg. The upper part of the femur is connected to the hip, forms the hip joint and the lower part of the bone is connected to the knee and forms a knee joint. This bone is the longest in the human body. The total length of the femur usually differs from man to man and is dependent on height, but in the average man is about 19 inches (48 cm). This bone can hold up to 30 times the weight of the average adult and allows people to walk, jump and run.
There are many different parts that make up the femur. Trochanters are two of the most identification features of this bone. They are usually referred to as a larger trochanter and a smaller trochanter, because one is smaller than the other. The function of trochangers is to hold the muscles of the hip area and thighs in place. The trochangers are typical very noticeable because they are bony and irregularly shaped and one can even feel them on the outside of the legs.
Some other parts that make up the femur are condyles. There are also two of them that are referred to as side and media condyles. The function of the condyles is to fit into the small spaces of the tibia, which is located at the knee joint. One can easily bend and straighten the knees partly because of these condyles. Condyles can also help with knee rotation.
The thigh bone is considered to be the strongest bones in the human body and also one of the most important. Despite his size and strength, he tends to weaken as one ages. Women who have osteoporosis are particularly at risk of problems with their thigh bones. Surgery is often required to repair fractures that occur in the femur, but this norms depend very much on the severity of the injury. In addition to osteoporosis, car accidents are another major cause of fractures and fractures in the femur because generally requires a large amount of force like JE of what may occur in an average car accident to break so strong bones.
