What Is a Gravity Wall?

The gravity retaining wall is based on the gravity of the retaining wall itself to maintain the stability of the retaining wall under the action of earth pressure. It is a kind of retaining wall commonly used in China. Gravity retaining walls can be built with stone or concrete, and are generally made into simple trapezoids.

1. The foundation construction of the retaining wall shall meet the following requirements:

1. When the foundation is excavated deeper or the slope stability is poor, excavation should be carried out in sections and hoppers, and temporary support measures should be taken.

2. The distance between the temporary spoil or piled materials and the side of the pit shall not be less than 2m, and the driving of the machinery shall not affect the construction safety.

3. The foundation pit should be backfilled and compacted in layers with the foundation construction, and the top surface should be made of a drainage slope not less than 4% outward.

1. The wall surface should be smooth and tidy, and the drainage and anti-seepage facilities at the top of the wall should be implemented in time.

2. The drain hole should be left in place when the wall is built, and the drainage must be kept unobstructed.

3. When demoulding the back of the wall, the necessary temporary support should be set on the back of the wall.

3. The construction of gravity retaining wall shall be checked according to the following table, and the inspection record form shall be filled in carefully. In case of non-compliance found during the inspection, a safety inspection rectification notice shall be issued, rectification shall be made within a time limit, and follow-up verification shall be performed. ^[2]
