What is a shaped charge?

The form of charging is a specially forged explosive designed to project the overheated beam of liquid metal through armor. Thick and towing metals are the most effective, the copper is the most common. Modern shaped cartridges can achieve 10 cd penetration (cone diameters). For example, in the shape of a cone diameter of 10 cm (4 inches), it would be possible to penetrate the subway through armor. Shaped accusations have become notorious in Iraq, where they are used in road bombs to penetrate through armor APC and kill American soldiers. The charge is partially excavated and filled with a metal cone called insert. This is a part that becomes overheated. When the explosive is detonated, the insert cone is compressed into the nozzle and accelerated forward. The tip of the shaped coating moves at hypersonic speed, approximately 7 to 14 km/s, which is 20-40 times the sound. The combination of heat and extreme speed is sufficient to puncture most types of tank armor.

The primary head used for warm (highly explosive anti-tank) projectiles is a shaped charge. The variant on the topic is SFF (separate fragment) or EFP (explosive projectile), where the metal plate is located on the front of the shaped hub. The plate is melted and accelerated forward at a high speed (1-2 km/s), not as fast as a nozzle in conventional shape, but still useful. This variant gives it a greater range than a conventional current, up to hundreds of CD instead of only 10.

Shaped hubs require accurate machining to work properly or in some cases. The requirement for accurate machining has led the power of the United States in Iraq to announce that shaped US -killing fees were probably made in Iran and smuggled Across boundaries. Recently, however, it has been found that certain devices in Iraq may have the ability to machine.
