What are domestic robots?

Home robots are electronic robotic devices that are designed to manage various types of tasks around the house. While some of these devices focus on functions such as house cleaning, others are designed to provide the Seniors Society, monitor the activities of young children and operate kitchen appliances. While the number and type of domestic robots that are today in real use are somewhat small, designs for robots with a wider range of ability are currently developing by a number of different companies.

Of all the domestic robots that are currently used today, it is the most common vacuum. This type of household robot is able to maneuver around the floor of the room, clean carpets, hardwood and other types of floors. The robot uses sensors to identify the presence of furniture and other objects and change direction when and as needed. There are also domestic robots that are used as part of a home security network. Devices of this type are usually connected to computer systems in the home using cable or wireless connection. These include robots that can be programmed to prepare simple meals, pull out garbage, dust, create a bed and manage a number of relatively uncomplicated household duties. There are also companies that examine the potential for the development of robots that can function as health professionals and provide limited health care to patients who recover from surgery or illness. While many of the more sophisticated ideas for domestic robots remain the SCI provinces, advances in technology are slowly allowing to convert some of these fictitious illustrations of robot servants to reality.
