What is a silicon transistor?

The silicone transistor is a semiconductor made of silicon base. It is used in a variety of electronic devices such as TVs and phones to change the flow of electric current. Silicon has largely replaced Germanium in transistors due to its ability to continue with high temperatures. The silicon transistor has other advantages over alternative materials, such as production costs, and is therefore produced in industrial countries today.

The engineers had to figure out how to transform silicon into a single crystal with a recurring atomic structure. Finally, these techniques were developed and a silicon transistor was put into weight production.

Every year the total number of transistors produced is much millions larger than the country's population. Many billions in US dollars (USD) are spent on silicon transistors every year.

Silicone transistors can be found on many domestic devices, including computers, digital cameras and mobile phones. You can also find them in some less obvious places. Cars, washing machines and many coffee machines use silicon chips to process information. Temperature check and safety devices often use chips to communicate with larger networks such as a network of the whole house, building or complex.
