What is IR photodiode?
IR Photodiode is an electrical component that converts light into electricity. This type of component is specially designed to respond to light in the infrared range. Communication, sensors and security are three applications that often use them. When photons of the light hit the diodes, the electrons are "discarded" from the place. When the electron is moved, the charge occurs. The continuous exposure to the photodiode to light creates a constant flow of electricity. The amount of current corresponds to the amount of light affected by the diode surface.
Standard photodiodes create electricity in response to visible light. IR Photodioda uses an infrared filter to block visible light and allows you to pass only the IR wavelength of the light. This reduces the level of interference from the background light and ensures that the current is only generated when infrared light is present. IR Photode is technically able to generate continuous electricity exposed to infrared light.
, however, most of these components are not used to generate energy, but rather to receive an infrared signal. This is useful for remote communication. For example, television often uses infrared photodios to detect when the button is pressed on the remote control. The IR filter helps to ensure that sunlight does not interfere with this control. This allows the robot to stop before deploying a wall or other objectshere.
Security Systems use these components to detect intruders. In this application, the invisible nature of infrared light can be a significant advantage. The IR light source can be placed on one side of the door or room, with an IR photodiode located on the opposite side. The diode is able to detect a constant beam of infrared light while the intruders do not see the sensor. If someone enters the room and breaks the IR beam, an alarm is activated.
