What is Blu-ray?

Blu-ray (also known Blu-ray and BD) is a massive optical storage medium of the new generation. The disk measures the same as a normal digital versatile disk (DVD) or compact disk (CD) (4.7 inches/120 mm diameter), but Blu-ray disc format has a much greater capacity than these two predecessors and is used mainly in the high-definition area (HD) media. The disk takes its name from the purple or blue color laser with which the data is read and written. This is due to the very short wavelength of this laser that the Blu-ray format can store a huge amount of data. With a laser beam of only 405 nanometers, the Blu-ray disk with one layer has a maximum storage capacity of 25 gigabytes, while the double layer disk has a maximum storage capacity of 50 gigabytes. The explicit purpose of the group was to develop a mass media repository that would allow recording, rewriting and playing video and high -resolution video (HD). Group also developed a number of advanced video codecs that make it easier to supply media with highby distinction.

45 Nanometer blue laser Blu-ray Disc is an improvement of 65 nanometer red laser, which is used in DVD and CD formats. With a shorter wavelength, the laser beam can be focused more precisely and the data written more compactly. This means that while the Blu-ray disk retains the same dimensions as its DVD and CD, it is able to use the optical storage space economically. This means that a typical two-layer Blu-ray disk can store almost six times more data than a double-layer DVD and ten times more than a single layer of DVD.

Blu-ray format is supported by the leaders of the electronic digital media industry, with all from Apple, Hitachi and Hewlett Packard (HP) to Samsung, Sony, Thomson and TDK. The film industry followed a suit and Hollywood considered the format as a natural successor to DVD. Movement of Hollywood studios such as Warner Brothers and Twentieth Century Fox to accept FOrmate Blu-ray at the expense of the competitive HD format meant that the former format became de facto optical media format for film and the last video game industry.
