What is community economic development?

Community Economic Development (CED) is a type of community initiative to improve some aspects of the local community through support and create economic opportunities. Most forms of community economic development focus on the use of resources of community leaders and local enterprises to help citizens with low income or vulnerable citizens or to improve the community through environmental, security and public persecutions. Successful projects usually rely on joint efforts between private and public workers, using organizational and analytical skills of local administration and resources, specialized knowledge and services of private industry.

One of the main advantages for the community's economic development is that they drive local problems at local level. The main players in the CED project are usually people who live and work in the community themselves, and thus have an informed understanding of the contested community and a personal share of improving.
