What Are the Most Common MRI Side Effects?

The side effects of magnetic resonance imaging are mainly related to lying in a small space for a long time, especially dizziness, headache and fatigue are the most common. More serious side effects also involve response to contrast agents used in MRI. In very rare cases, if there is a piece of metal in the body, the MRI device will also force the object to move inside the body and cause serious damage. This is an extremely rare side effect because hospitals have strict precautions to prevent such accidents.

The side effects that people experience when doing MRI appear to be caused by MRI, but they are actually caused by lying down for a long time. Some patients report dizziness and back pain, which are almost always related to lying on a hard surface for more than an hour. Feeling fatigue after MRI is often caused by imaging pressure. Adverse reactions such as headaches are the result of prolonged noise, and how many people have migraines.

Others have an allergic reaction to the contrast medium used during MRI. More serious side effects can occur when patients have severe kidney failure and are exposed to a contrast agent that contains gadolinium. This is a disease called nephrogenic systemic fibrosis that is not only incurable but also fatal. But this is unlikely to happen because patients with renal failure will be detected before using MRI involving radon.

In rare cases, iron can cause pain in the body. Ferromagnetic objects move near MRI equipment. If they are in the body, they can cause serious damage to internal organs. People who fill their teeth with metal can also feel slightly numb, but smaller dental fillings usually do not cause problems during this process.

Because magnetic resonance imaging is a less-familiar technology, it can cause stress and worry to many people. This problem can be avoided by talking to your doctor and understanding that MRI is a very safe test procedure.
