What can I expect during EEG scan?
Electroencefalogy (EEG) is a diagnostic test physician to record and analyze brain waves. You can usually expect to relax comfortably during EEG scanning because the test is painless. In fact, it can be the most difficult part of it if you tend to become restless. In some cases, you can receive a sedative before scanning EEG, but this is usually just to help you fall asleep if the scan is to take place during sleep. The EEG scan usually takes about half an hour to 60 minutes.
When you have to undergo EEG scan, you will probably be asked to relax in a position that is comfortable for you. For example, you may be asked to relax on a comfortable chair. The EEG technician usually connects the electrodes to the scalp by glue. The adhesive is unlikely to cause damage to the scalp of the head or hair. After the test, you can usually wash it out as soon as you return home.
Electrodes used for EEG are flat metal discs that connect to device used to transmitfor brain waves to a computer. Brain waves are enlarged and recorded on a computer for physician analysis. The test only analyzes your brain wave patterns. It is not possible to reveal your thoughts for a test beetor or a doctor who analyzes your brain waves.
You will probably spend most of the EEG scanning with your eyes closed. However, the EEG technician can submit several requirements during the test. For example, it may ask you to open and close your eyes or look at the photo. It may also ask you to read, solve a simple mathematical problem or stare at the light. It may even ask you to breathe deeply in an effort to detect changes in your brain's electrical activity.
If you have scheduled to perform EEG scanning during sleep, you will probably receive a sedative that will help you sleep during the test. As with regular EEG scanning, this test is intended for a rule and evaluatedOutline brain activity that may seem different when you sleep. However, you may need to stay in the test device for a short period of time after the EEG scan, which is performed during sleep. This allows sedative to be fully worn. You will probably have to take you a friend or family member after the test, even if it is usually not necessary if you do not get a sedative.
