What causes spleen inflammation?

Sleen is an organ placed on the left side of the body, towards the back of the abdominal cavity and up below the ribs, right next to the stomach. It is an important part of the immune system and is connected to the lymphatic system, serving as a filter for foreign matter and dead tissue that passes through it. This organ also works on the production of white blood cells and to maintain the health of white blood cells, red blood cells and plates. The spleen inflammation can be the result of many different conditions, including different types of infections, cancer and liver problems, blood or lymphatic system.

Infections are a common cause of spleen inflammation and viral diseases such as mononucleosis and viral hepatitis, can cause significantly enlargement of the spleen. Endocarditis, bacterial heart valve infections and cat scratches, another type of bacterial infection may also result in significant spleen inflammation. Parasitic infections can also CAUSE this condition, which is a common problem in a person who is infected with malaria or toxoplasmosis.

someThe conditions that cause the spleen inflammation may be bad enough so that the spleen can eventually have to be removed. The anemia of the sickle cells is one of such diseases. Liver cirrhosis is another example of a disease that can affect the spleen to the extent that it becomes too enlarged and can no longer work, which could lead to its removal.

Many types of cancer can lead to significant spleen inflammation, while leukemia and lymphoma are two main causes. Other blood cancer or lymphatic system usually causes an enlarged and inflamed spleen. Cancer from other parts of the body that metastasizes or spreads to the spleen is likely to lead to inflammation and can also cause it to be removed.

In many cases, a person who is dealing with spleen inflammation may not be aware of the problem, because apparent symptoms are not common. Some symptoms indicating a potential problemM are full with very small food and pain or full feeling on the left side of the abdomen. Other symptoms that may occur in conjunction with spleen inflammation are usually caused by a basic disease such as anemia, weight loss, too easily bleeding and constant fatigue. If the spleen is significantly enlarged, the doctor may be able to feel it during the examination, in which case it will probably be tender and painful. Blood tests and ultrasound examination will probably be used to confirm the diagnosis.
