What does it mean if something is non -sterile?

The term "non -sterile" in medicine can refer to any items that do not meet the level of sterility (SAL) established by the region. In principle, Sal means that all the items assessed with the sterile have been cleaned and packed according to its standards. Without this warranty, the items can be assessed contaminated. This does not mean that they are dangerous or not useful, but are not suitable for all medical applications. Different types of gauze may or may not contain this label. It is somewhat difficult to maintain certain sterile items such as tape, because once it is open and used, it begins to collect bacteria. For most domestic use, the sterility of the item is not so important because the bacteria they can collect are common to which people are often exposed to. Some exceptions may exist if the individual bands large wounds or is vulnerable to infections. Jar of tongue depressors often does not contain individually wrapped objects. Not likely that stethoscopes, tape or himWhen cotton balls retain their sterility. Most things are kept clean or washing with alcohol. However, the chairs in the office or on the table of the room is non -sterile.

Several things for doctors are sterile, such as shots, some cotton swabs and tools for small procedures. Basically, doctors would maintain sterile any items that attack the body, such as a needle or that are used in testing bacteria or viruses. Doctors usually observe clean and non -sterile procedures such as washing hands in front of the glove to grind the wound. They try to keep things as clean as it is reasonably possible. Yet there is usually no way to create an non -sterile sterile environment where people come and leave, wear the same scrub all day and interact with sick people.

where it depends most about it is in hospitals. Almost all invasive procedures or surgeryThey must be carried out with sterile objects and are preferably subjected to rooms that meet special standards. The line is blurred because people with injuries can come to emergency rooms and need surgery that are not perfectly sterile.

If possible, however, the planned operations are carried out in operating theaters that are as appropriate as possible without contaminants. Equipment, materials and even clothing worn by hospital workers should be without pathogens. Observing this protocol and avoiding the use of non -sterile items helps reduce infection. On the other hand, once people are placed in the recovery room, their chances of infection increase because these rooms are not sterile.
